Temp files will not delete upon closing

I have setup my explorer (6) to delete temp files upon
closing the explorer window. It has stopped doing so, I
believe after receiving some updates from Microsoft. I am
running w98se. Now, I have to restart the computer, open
and close the explorer for the program to delete these
files. Any ideas?

When you say that you received some updates from Microsoft, I hope you
don't mean by email. That's a hoax and comes with a virus. Either way,
you should run your antivirus and spyware detectors (Ad-Aware and\or
Spybot).
