Stew

I have been running MS AntiSpyware and have noticed a
buildup of temp files.

I have been deleting them but does anyone know if
this "feature" is by design or a plot by the hard disk
mfg's to sell more hard disks?

Thanks.

Fortunately, when the disk gets full, under XP at least, you have to really
work to keep the disk cleanup app from getting rid of that stuff. I know--I
ran my system with only a few 10's of megabytes free for months. It is even
amazing that windows will run for some hours acceptably with zero megs free
on the system drive.

These files are a bug--delete them. I think it is unlikely this behavior
will carry through to beta2.

If you regularly use the freeware programs Empty Temporary Files and
CCleaner, you won't have this problem. The problem exists on all Windows
versions with which I am familiar.

You can set EmpTemp to delete files anywhere. For example, I use it to empty
the Google Earth cache.

But what makes it a problem? If the disk isn't getting full, can we cite
any objective evidence that shows that all that junk in Temporary Files is a
problem? I clean this stuff out when I touch a machine if there's any space
issue at all, but I don't worry much about it--not enough to add new apps to
systems to handle it.

Hi Bill

Of course this is a problem with thousends of small files and among
these we also often have spyware sources.

It is stupid to not remove this default hidden mess and CCleaner
removes this mess. This is a MS design failure from beginning.
(maybe also with commercial wishes ?)

If a user wants a working PC with fast scans I also recommend removal.

It´s only benefits to clean out this mess.

Yes. TIF being too full can cause images to only save as BMP files. It can
also cause View | Source not to work. There are some other problems that I
only remember when I see a post with the problem.

Hi

Not only the TIF, you also have all temp folders/files, installation
left behinds(inst folders) and among this mess often also the spyware
source. So this mess must be removed. IMHO.
