Temp files for Word Docs

Does M-Word save "temp files"? I've managed to lose the extensive revisions I made to a large document, I'm wondering if word automatically saves a version as a temp file in case of a system shut-down or power surge?
 
Yes, but your best bet (if you're using a recent version of Office like XP
or 2003) is to restart Word and let it try to recovery your document.
