So what is used for overtemp alarms? Or do people bother? Or is this
now hidden in the OS somewhere? I have the P5B-E, an ATI card, and run
XP-Pro. Asus has tools but I don't know how to make them wake up on
the tray. ATI has the CCC but I don't see a temp alarm in it. Thanks.
I too have the P5B-E mobo with an ATI card using XP-Pro. I tried several
temp monitor programs and found that no two measurements of temperature
agreed between programs. The PC Probe II program that came with your mobo
(look on your CD if you didn't load it) has temp sensors (that usually agree
with the bios readings). You can run this program at startup if you want
and either click on it from the tray to read the temps or leave desired
sensor readings on your screen. Double click on the tray icon and then
click on "config" to view the temp sensor readings. It should give you a
warning (red dial or audio) if a temp exceeds the threshold you can set. I,
personally, like the Core Temp program best but it reads cpu temps,
typically, several degrees centigrade lower that the bios or PC Probe II.
With Core Temp you can leave it in the tray and left-click or hover over it
to read the cpu temps but there is no warning signal offered.
