Can someone please help me to tackle a Telnet problem.
Telnet starts automatically everytime I start Windows XP.
I have checked the obvious (start menu programs) and the
registry for any autostarting programs, but cannot locate
the source of the problem. Many thanks.

Thanks Dirk, but I have tried searching
for 'run'...'telnet' etc. Nothing seems to be out of the
ordinary. I have a feeling that a recent virus may have
caused this (the Telnet security hole!), although my
antivirus software has since ridded my system of this.
Telnet continues to plague me!

Try checking here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

And

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

And

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
- the folders

and

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP

and your autoexec.nt file.

Also run msconfig to see if it shows anything.

Many thanks. That fixed the problem. I had overlooked one
of the keys in the registry. Thanks again.
