I thought it may be a good idea to start a thread about how you crunch. :)

1) What program, UD Agent or BOINC?

2) How many PC's, and how long are they on for?
I know it says the device numbers in the WCG stats page but it isn't very accurate.

-------------------------------------------------------

I'll start the ball rolling, My pc (in sig) is using BOINC and is on 24/7.

I also have the WCG Agent installed on my girlfriends parents pc. but they are away so no points from that for nearly 2 weeks.

I've got WCG installed on my main machine, which is on all day (not night, as its far too loud) and then WCG installed on a server in my room which is on 24/7 (pretty much silent).

Considering switching to the BOINC agent after seeing how others fare :)

im running UD agent on my machine which runs about 8-10 hours a day, i usually get 1 or 2 results done a day at about 250 points each

One machine, bionic I think, runs for about 8 hours a day, but runs in the background of all the stuff i do with the comp.

Rufus

2 PCs

My Linux box ... Linux Boinc 24/7 / 365 ... good little cruncher. ;)
My Ian's box ... Windows UD ... if I'm lucky he has it on for a few hours on average 3 days out of 7 :(

Average daily returns ... 1,000 points a day. :thumb:

:p

* in bits, still not rebuilt, is my "old girl" who will be back *

Oh, and I look after The MJW PC ... Windows Boinc Tweaked 24/7 / 365 ... daily average 1,000 points ... quiet as a mouse.

:D

Did you know, the stock AMD supplied fan kicks up a notch every now 'nd then ... heard it last night for the first time, by the time I got out of bed to see why, it was back to normal ... never heard it before. :o

Must get a new hearing aid. :D

Crunched for 4.5 years, between 2 & 4 machines always going 24/7, now retired :)

Blame it on Bruce at Folding@home ;)

Do you think you'll ever be persuaded (either by us or BBT) to crunch again? :D

1 machine 24/7 Top 10

but never crunch 1,000 pts in a day to get a mention ?

Still Top 10 of PC Review makes me feel proud :D

UD only.

Two Pc's 24/7 (was only one pc for first 7 - 8 days)

Short and sweet I know, but hey its seems to be working.

I've just noticed you don't have a custom title Triplex, I'm onto it now :) You should be able to change it in your User Panel on the side menu :)

One PC : AMD x64 Sempron 3000+ @ 3400+ Speeds / 768MB RAM... Rest In Sig

Outputs around 1,200 on a good day ;)

probably

I've sulked long enough really, haven't I?

tbh, I did notice a big difference in my December electric bill, and I'd only stopped crunching a month

I will probably wait until late March, when next electric bill due, to see what impact it really makes, crunching 24/7

or, alternatively, if sales/work is good, I'll just steam in again

and if I do, BBF, who I was with all those years, or pc review, my UK forum home?

hard choice, but I suppose all that matters is crunching to find a cure

I sometimes wonder, what's most beneficial to beat diseases? Crunching or donating or making cash contribution to charities?

and why doesn't the Goverment fund research into a disease that could very well strike our own Prime Minister dead? I do think about that

I've known a few close peeps killed by Cancer. It really is a scum disease

In the meantime, to those crunching, I salute you

(confused atm)

I was thinking the same thing this week - is it worth a single machine crunching on the scale of things, or would it be better to give £20 to a cancer charity. Then again, £20 is just as insignificant as 1 machine on the scale of things. But, when there are loads of £20's and loads of machines, perhaps it can make a difference.

Which makes the most difference? I don't have a clue :o I think both have a very big part to play though :)

But £20 is £20 m8, however will you continue to give £20?

Where as you can continue to crunch!

All 'crunchers' are given special tittles and can change them is so desired ... you need 500 posts otherwise.

;)
