I'm sorry if this is a FAQ.

I need somehow to get IE 6.0 under Win2K to believe that I want to use
Yahoo! mail as my default email program. I follow the directions in the
help window, but I cannot see the way to point IE at Yahoo! email: the
only choices are Hotmail and Outlook Express, as far as I can see.

How do I tell IE 6.0 to use Yahoo! email instead?

Thanks so much!

great suggestion but I to have same problem and the link you suggested does
not correct problem...............any other possible solutions.......running
windows xp.

You have to install the Yahoo Toolbar or Messenger. It will create the
settings for you.

Here are my registry settings for Yahoo Mail

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo! Mail]
@="Yahoo! Mail"
"DLLPath"="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Yahoo!\\Common\\ymmapi.dll"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo! Mail\Protocols]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo! Mail\Protocols\mailto]
@="URL:MailTo Protocol"
"EditFlags"=hex:02,00,00,00
"URL Protocol"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo!
Mail\Protocols\mailto\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Yahoo!\\Common\\ymmapi.dll,0"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo!
Mail\Protocols\mailto\shell]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo!
Mail\Protocols\mailto\shell\open]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo!
Mail\Protocols\mailto\shell\open\command]
@="rundll32.exe
C:\\PROGRA~1\\Yahoo!\\Common\\ymmapi.dll,MailToProtocolHandler %1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo! Mail\shell]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo! Mail\shell\open]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Yahoo! Mail\shell\open\command]
@="rundll32.exe C:\\PROGRA~1\\Yahoo!\\Common\\ymmapi.dll,OpenInboxHandler"

You can copy and paste the above into notepad and save as a .reg file and
then run it to merge it into the registry.
You need to have ymmapi.dll installed and registered on you puter!

If you follow the instructions on the page and download the required file,
your MailTo options and default mail will point to Yahoo mail, dp.

Ok - next suggestion - that little driver did not take care of the problem
either - I have spoken with SBC, Dell, and they all dont seem to know what
root cause is - any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanx - dp

Hello Rob-

I M a little concern about messing with the registry plus i do not know how
to install your patch. Any other way to take care of problem? I do know
that any patches provided by yahoo do not rectify problem ...

To all: have managed to get yahoo mail to take. Ended up going back to help
page in Yahoo Mail, and went through process of downloading their driver,
while doing this I noticed that an Active X yahoo component had to be
downloaded prior to the driver which allowed the driver to be installed.
All working well now.....thanks for all your suggestions............
