Anyone had any experience with this device?
(USB2, external 2.5" HD enclosure).
Best I ever got out of it was once (for a few seconds)
when it actually recognized the make & model number.
Rest of the time it is either "Unknown Device" or "USB Device"
Usually I get "Error 10 - Failed to Start"
I've got a 40Gb Toshiba disk drive in it.
It claims it will take up to 60Gb drives.
Disk seems to spin up properly. Power LED looks good.
Activity LED blinked once (accompanied by disk
calibration type sounds).
I just traded in the original for second unit
and it doesn't work any better than the first.
Even tried external 5V supply (
since Tekram's docs are a marvel of obfuscation.)
Tried it on both USB1.x and USB2 ports.
No apparent difference in symptoms.
Tekram's docs say it will work with both USB2 and USB1.1
Sometimes I get the warning that my high-speed USB
device will work on 1.x ports, but will be slower. (Duh.)
At least one of the counter-guys said "Oh, we've never
got one of those to work." I am begining to believe them.
How could they continue selling these things if they don't
work?
