I would like to animate a simple teeter totter up and down (from one extreme
to the other only) as a weight slides from one end to the other. I realize
that this can be accomplished by moving each individual component multiple
times and then animating each segment. Is there a way to do this using the
motion option under animation in powerpoint 2003? The problem area seems to
be that the teeter totter remains fixed at the fulcrum.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi Danny,

You can animate a teeter totter using an Emphasis Effect. The fulcrum needs
to be a separate object, as it will remain in place during the animation.

Draw a rectangle or other shape for the long, balancing bar on the teeter
totter. Place it at the top center of the fulcrum.

Select the new teeter totter bar and add an Emphasis Effect: Spin. The
default spin is 360 degrees. Edit this amount to around 30 degrees (adjust
as necessary).

With the weight graphic on the lower end of the teeter, add a Motion Path >
Draw Custom Path > Curve. Draw the first point in the center of the weight,
2nd point above the center of the fulcrum, and the 3rd point approx. where
the weight will end up at the end of the animation.

You'll need to select the Path (on the slide) and right-click > Edit Points.
Edit the individual points of the curve to make adjustments for smooth
animation. Set the timing of this path to be the same as your Spin effect.

To make the animation look a bit more realistic, you might try the Smooth
Start and Smooth End Effect Options. (Double click on the Motion Path
Effect and Path in the animation list to change options.)

Does this answer your question?

Hello Julie (and thanks again!)

Perfect - Worked like a charm. Sometimes I gotta wonder under what headings
some features are placed.......

Unfortunatley as you know some features in newer versions are not backwards
compatible with older powerpoint version and the presentation I built will be
for multiple users. However, when I give it I will have something unique!

Thanks again. Your help is most appreciated.

I'm glad it worked for you, thanks for letting me know.

One option for others with older versions: they can play your file with the
PowerPoint Viewer and all of the animations will be intact. Search:
PowerPoint Viewer 2003

Best wishes,
