TechNet Chats - a question

As you may know, we have been running a series of TechNet Chats around Group
Policy over the past few months - generally once a month. Tomorrow we have
the fifth in the "series" (covering Roaming User Profiles, Folder
Redirection and Offline Folders - technologies that compliment each other to
help in the management of roaming and mobile users). The transcript of each
of our previous chats is available at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...=/technet/itcommunity/chats/trans/default.asp.

So, with that batch of chats behind us we'd like to get a sense of what
serves you best moving forward. We can take two approaches to this and would
be delighted to receive your thoughts (by posting as a response on the
newsgroups to this message).

a) We continue to identify a "focus" for each TechNet Chat (such as software
distribution, Roaming User Profiles, etc).

b) We establish regular TechNet Chats that are more generic (while still
obviously centered in Group Policy). If it's about Group Policy it's fair
game! This will give you a predictable and hopefully valuable way to
communicate directly with developers, testers and program managers on the
Group Policy team.

Regardless of which approach is chosen, we'll continue to set these up
roughly once a month. The Group Policy team remains committed to hearing
directly from you - the customer using Group Policy - about your issues,
problems and challenges to help us build on the technology available today.

Anyway, we'd love to hear from you. Please reply through the newsgroup to
this message.

I vote for picking a topic, but allowing some "going away from the topic"
once in a while :-)

Ahh - the best of both worlds, eh? :-) Seriously, this is a fine line and
everyone will have their own thoughts on just how much "going away from
topic" is appropriate. There is a sense that the "generic" approach allows
you to post your questions - period. And you'll know when the next
opportunity will be to be on contact with the product group so for
non-urgent issues you could delay a question until teh next TechNet Chat,
safe in the knowledge that if it is about Group Policy you will hopefulyl
have a chance to ask that question (we obviously need to be sure that we
address the needs of a broad number of customers so want to respond to a
wide variety through each chat).

By comparison, definition of a specific focus for each chat probably makes
the resultant transcripts just that bit more valuable. For example, if you
are interested in Group Policy-based software distribution then the
transcript of our July chat might be of interest (as compared to the
somewhat randomized nature of a generic chat).

Anyway, food for thought. Thanks again for the feedback.
