Tearing my hair out - problem with cookies?

This problem has only appeared in the last few days, after many many months
of using IE6.

An example:

I frequently visit a site that has a large messageboard. Each unread post
is flagged unread, and of course once you read it, it is automatically
flagged as read. But now when I read a massage, it never seems to flag as
read. If I return to the messageboard, all the posts I've read are still
flagged as unread.

This problem is not specific to a single site. For instance, when listing
items on eBay I am having a problem too. When I enter all my details and
then click submit, I get an eBay error message to the effect that the new
item I am trying to list has already been listed!

Is anyone here award of any bugs in any of the Windows updates? I set
Windows (XP) to automatically accept any Microsoft updates.

I'm fairly sure this has something to do with cookies, but I can't think
what.

Mike.

Could it be that your Temporary Internet Files (Folders) or the index is
corrupt, too large?
