Hi! I have what I hope is a simple question, please. If it does not turn
out to be simple, I'll pass on it! I am a K through 8th technology teacher.
Last year I saw a PowerPoint presentation another school had done where you
could click on a picture in a slide to skip to another slide. For example,
"Click on the Red Cat to go to the city, or click on the Blue Dog to go to
the farm." Unfortunately, I did not get to talk to the teacher to find out
how it was done. Would this involve inserting AxctiveX controls or what.
Anyone have a simple way I can do this? Thanks a bunch!

You can do this with hyperlinks or action settings. You can also do this
with animation triggers in PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP).

It would help us help you if you'd specify which version of PPT you're
using.

Aha, you're in luck, then.

Probably the easiest thing to do is to direct you to the Jeopardy
example on my site. http://www.echosvoice.com It's under animation
features.

To set a trigger, do the following:
Right-click the object you want to animate on click and select Custom
Animation. Add an appropriate entrance/exit/motion path animation. Then
click the arrow to the right of the object in the custom animation task
pane and select Timing. In that dialog, click the Triggers option.
Choose "start effect on click of" and in that box, select the object
that will trigger the animation.

Make sense?

That will actually trigger an object to animate when you click on
another object.

To move to a different slide, you'd use action settings (or hyperlinks
as I mentioned earlier).

Make a rectangle or something that is what the person should click on to
get to the other slide. Right-click it and select Action Settings. On
the Mouse Click tab, select the Hyperlink To option. In the drop down
box, click Slide... and then select the slide you want to go to when
that object is clicked.

You'll want to remove both the "on click" and "automatic" options on
your slide transition so that the slide doesn't move forward when
someone just clicks the mouse, even if they haven't clicked on the
button.

Echo

Echo's given you one way to do it, here's another:

Right click the picture and choose Action Settings ...
On the MouseClick tab, click Hyperlink to: then choose Slide from the
dropdown listbox below.
You'll get a Hyperlink to Slide dialog box that lists the slides in your
presentation.
Choose the one you want and click OK to return to the Action Settings dialog
box.
Click OK there to close it.

Now when you click the picture during a presenation, it'll take you to the
other slide you chose.

Thanks for your answer! I am using PowerPoint 2002. Could you please give
me a quick rundown on how to insert or set an animation trigger? this
sounds like fun!

Wow! I can't wait to try it! Thanks so very much to both of you! School
starts tomorrow, and I am always looking for new things to keep them
interested. This will be a good project to keep them busy a few weeks and
help them learn how to do something new in PowerPoint. They get bored with
the same old presentations. Appreciate it!
