TEAC CD-224E CDROM Drive in ActionBook 340T

Hi

Trying to install XP on my brothers laptop for him but despite XP
booting off the CD and the rebooting to continue the install it fails to
find the CDROM drive after loading networking and the drivers and then
can't load IE6.

I can get XP up and log in and perform most normal tasks even networking
etc. but it will not see the CD-ROM drive. This is a very common drive
so I can't imagine it not being supported although I can't be sure the
ATAPI interface s/w level is 1.2

I've tried different XP CD's so it's not a media problem. I'd be very
greatful if you had any ideas on what I can try.

Oh a further point is that when you search for new hardware the CD light
comes on but it is still not detected.

Sounds like maybe that you have a bad cdrom drive
have you tried replacing it yet

Mmm its fixed inside the notebook.... but it works fine when booting and
from when it had Win98 on it.
