Hi
My friend's PC has stopped connecting to the internet. IPCONFIG responds
that it can't find the host name because the driver is invaild. Also TCP/IP
gives an error in the event viewer saying it won't load, again because the
driver is invalid. I suspect a virus. Can you tell me how to fix this? I
really don't want to rebuild!
Thanks,
Matt

Get anti-virus and anti-spyware softwares (CD or USB key)
Install each and check/clean out virus

Locate and install "Winsockxpfix.exe." This should "reset' TCPIP back
to MS defaults.

Remove and re-install any "network" adapter softwares.

Try doing a System Restore to a point in time before the problem began if
possible. Other than that a repair/upgrade install would be much less
painful than a total reinstall assuming you had necessary operating system
disks though a computer infested with malware may need and be better off
with a clean install to a formatted system disk. If you try virus/spyware
scans do so in Safe Mode first and try running something like Winsockfix
also.
