Hello,

I'm using a W2K Pro SP4 notebook which belongs to a W2K Adv Srvr domain.
Currently I'm out of the office using a hotel DSL connection but cannot
browse the web using the hotel's DNS settings. However, I am able to make a
VPN connection to my network resources. I use DHCP so all TCPIP & DNS
settings are set for automatic. I have tried the following but cannot seem
to clear the current DNS settings and accept the hotel's DNS for web browsing.

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release & renew
nbtstat -R

Thank you.

posting the result of ipconfig /all here may help.

What are the LAN connection properties for Internet Explorer?
Tools, Internet Options, Connections Tab, LAN Settings button.
If you use a proxy server at your home office, the Admin might have set up
your proxy connections and port there.
If so, uncheck the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN....
Try to hit the internet again.

Proxy server is not selected in IE.

How about removing the TCPIP protocol for the ethernet adapter & re-adding it?
Or, removing the ethernet adapter from Device Manager & starting over?
Would you recommend either one?

Sometimes reinstalling the driver will reset it and fix a lot of problems.
It's worth a shot.

Ok, but before I do, do I run any risk of disconnecting myself from my
domain/network since I'm out of the office where I won't be able to use my
VPN with the hotel DSL anymore?

Doesnt seem like problem with your notebook or settings here. Are you sure
Hotels DNS are working fine? :-) Give a manual DNS entry. Use this DNS.
202.138.96.2 and 66.218.71.63 and see if you can browse.

Yes, the hotel DSL is working fine. I have other users/coworkers here and
they don't have any problems.
