Hello:

I am trying to play a game over the lan I set up at home.
I got pretty far into the process (which is amazing to be
sure) but on the last step, where the non-host computer
selected the game, I received a "wrong resources" error.
I've learned from the game forums that this is due to a
router having a closed tcp port or something. Any idea
what they're talking about and how to open that port???
Many thanks,

Al

First of all.. If you have a LAN in your home, you most likely do not have a
router, as you don't really need one unless your shareing High-Speed
internet. (but that's a whole nother ball park)

what game are you tring to play?
what IP addresses did you give your computers?

Ok, not sure of your setup, can you try and explane how you have everything
hooked up?

IE I have a hub/switch that both computers are... they have this ip
address... that sort of thing..

Hi Al,

I have a write-up you can look through for that brand router.
Here's How to Configure a Router to Play Online: http://www3.sympatico.ca/nibblesnbits/PortRoute.html#howto
That will also open the ports to your LAN. Remember, they
have a customer service center to walk you through this at:
1-800-326-7114, just make certain to tell them the port #'s.
Here's the List of all Ports used by Zone and DX Games: http://www3.sympatico.ca/nibblesnbits/PortRoute.html#ports

| Well, actually I do have a linksys router, which I
| probably didn't need. I am trying to play Blitzkrieg on
| the two computers. Someone on the BK forum said that the
| tcp ports need to be opened. I know the network is
| functioning as I shared some files last night. thanks.

Jimmy:

Thanks again! :)

Blitzkrieg uses UDP ports 8889 & 9089

How do I open them?

I will check out your site and give them a call (if
necessary). Thanks again!

Al

Hi Al,

Definitely disable programs such as Norton's to be
certain that they aren't blocking you. You need to
isolate the source of your trouble in order to setup
the configuration of it in order to allow you to play.

| I opened the ports last night and your directions were
| very easy to follow. However, that enabled me to play
| online. For some reason I am still getting the same
| error. It could be Norton, which I've disabled or a mod
| which I may have loaded. If I disable Norton autoprotect
| and email scanning, could a firewall still be activated??
