I'm confused here. We have a company wide LAN. In one area there are 4
systems all plugged into a switch. This is then connected to the WAN. All
four are using static IP address'. If I ping say system A from system B, it
works fine. If I disconnect the switch from the WAN, they can no longer
ping. Now, I'm pinging by number, not name, show there should be no DNS
resolution involved. They are static, so there should be no need for
anything from a DHCP server. If I do a tracert with the WAN connected, the
appear to connect directly, no hops. Why can't they see each other over
nothing but a hub or switch? Is it the gateway?
