TCP/IP trouble

I've had a lot of trouble with the Internet. I cannot get the Internet connection via a Linksys router. When I started to investigate the issue I found that the 'ipconfig' command does not work. The command prompt window just freezes when I type it in.

I have a Win2K Pro.

Somebody suggested that I should uninstall and reinstall TCP/IP. When I tried to do so, I got an error message: cannot uninstall TCP/IP because the protocol is being used by two other services: 'Simple TCP/IP services' and 'Print Services for Unix.' In other to uninstall the TCP/IP I have to find out how to uninstall those two services.

In Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Services and Applications>Services I found that there were no such services exactly but there were somewhat similarly sounding names: 'TCP/IP NetBios Helper Service' and 'TCP/IP Print Server.'

My question is how can I uninstall those? There is no way, I think, I can uninstall a service over there.

Is it the right way to get the ipconfig functionality back? I was stupid enough to have never made a system backup and now I am paying for it.

Please, help. - A.

Win2k does not have a built-in ipconfig. You need to dowload WNTIPCFG.EXE to see what's happening.

The basic procedure for uninstalling/reinstalling TCP/IP can be found here:

Simple TCP/IP Services is uninstalled through Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/Windows Components/Networking Services - Details.

Print Services for Unix is uninstalled through Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/Windows Components/Other File and Print Services - Details.

I'm not sure what Flyers999 is talking about. W2k absolutely has a built in ipconfig command. Try the uninstall of IP as
suggested by Doug. This should be you working again.
