TCP/IP settings that can't be changed

I am having trouble clearing some TCP/IP settings
associated with the inbuilt NIC on my Sony Vaio Notebook
running XP. The PC was recently used on a corporate
network where the ocal IT people set it with permanent
TCP/IP setting (i.e. address, mask, DNS etc). Now even
though I have cleared all of these settings and ensured
it's set to get it's address from a DHCP server, the
previous settings are still there and I can't seem to get
rid of them.

I have had to revert to plugging a PCMCIA network card
into the PCMCIA slot in order to get network and Internet
connectivity.

Is there somewhere that these settings could be
overriding the settings I'm choosing. I have logged in as
both administrator and administrator equivalent accounts
to no avail. Doing both an "ipconfig" or looking at the
network settings shown in the "details" panel on
the "Network Connections" folder reveal that the TCP/IP
settings from the corporate LAN are still there.

Of interest is these couple of points:
1. When this PC was added to the account an new login ID
was created fro the domain of teh network it was added
to. This new login DID NOT have administrative
privilidges.
2. There's another icon sitting under the "LAN or High
Speed Internet" category on the "Network Connections"
page and it's called "1394 Connection". I am not
experienced at fixing Win2000/XP issues but I've never
seen this before and don't know what it is for.

Hope someone can help. Thanks.
