TCP/IP problem with XP Home?

Everything was fine until Dial-up networking hung. Now when I try to
connect to the internet I get this:

Speed 40.0 Kbps
Sent: 3, 717 Bytes
Receive: 205 (sometimes 595) Bytes.

And it hangs there. I ran two diagnostics programs on the modem and
everything checked out fine.

I unchecked LCP extensions and IP compression.
I changed the modems max. speed.
Uninstalled then reinstalled the modem.
Updated the modem drivers.

Still the same thing.

Everything is fine on my other computer--no problems at all, so I
suspect it's a corrupted file in XP or something.

Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

I would restore my previous settings and then I would
run a Disk CleanUp (Start Menu/All
Programs/Accessories/System Tools). Mine is set to clear
Downloaded Program Files, Temporary Internet Files,
Recycle Bin, and WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files. I
run it about once a week and haven't had the problem
with 'hanging' since I started using it regularly. It
might work for you.
