was hoping the group can confirm / answer this issue.
the spooler is for the most part functional but every so often fails,
requiring manual restart.
it is also observed for the spooler service on a w2k (sp3) server
installation to report a service startup of disabled despite a value in a
template file which configures it to be automatic startup (value of 2).
the servers have been upgraded from windows nt4
the printers are configured to use lpr to send data to the HP jetdirect
print server devices on the network.
it is noted that the lpdsvc startup type is set to disabled (by the policy)
would this be sufficient to cause the spooler service to go to a status of
disabled ???
it would appear that the spooler service is somehow dependent on the "tcp/ip
print server" = lpdscvc ???
Thanks
