TCP/IP not working properly

Hello,

I have a network comprised of a mix of 3 win98 machines and 2 win2k,
all connected through a hub and a Belkin 4-port router.

There is also a cable-internet connection that's shared by all (via
the router).

The router has dhcp service and a firewall, but I don't have set up
specifically to block any ip address in particular (ie. it has the
factory default settings).

One of the w2k machines (\\ws04) is having issues with TCP/IP.

If I set a static IP address for this machine (outside of the router's
DHCP pool of addresses), ws04 can ping anything anywhere (in and
outside of the local network) and the other machines in the network
can ping it, however, IE in this computer cannot reach ANYWHERE, not
even if I use an ip address (ie. http://192.168.2.1).

If I set this machine to get an address from the DHCP server (the
router), it doesn't get one. Instead it defaults to the
16x.xxx.xxx.xxx address windows generates when no ip address is given
to it from the dhcp server.

The network itself is working well. I set this computer to use netbeui
for the time being and it can see and be seen by the other machines on
the network.

I spent about 8 hours on this already and the next step for me is
wiping out w2k and reinstalling, but before I do something this
drastic, I'd like to know if there's anything else I can try.

Thank you!!!!

Alex

Hi Jetro,

Tried that. Several times already. Even tried pulling out the network
card, restarting the pc, putting back the NIC. No dice.

I'm going to try WinsockFix.exe tonight and see if that makes a
difference.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Alex
