TCP/IP not enabled, no network places

Just installed xp home on new system on an asus A7N8X motherboard with 2
built in LAN. I've disbaled one of the connection as there is nothing
connected to it. I did this from within windows. Both LANs are enable from
within bios. I seem to be lacking any network. If you go to start button,
there is no "my network places" button to click on. The onboard LAN connects
ok with the internet via a broadband router.
 
can you ping other computer? what do you get if using net share command?
