Hello. I have a Compaq Evo 510 Desktop that has been
working fine until Friday afternoon. It has Windows XP
professional with all current updates. The problem is
that it is still connecting to our local Novell network,
but will not connect to internet and email. When I have
it set to automatically get Ip address, it doesn't get
one, and when I choose repair on the network page, it says
it can't repair the tcp/ip address. When I put a static
IP in, with all the gateway, dns, etc, info, it appears
correct, but I still cannot connect. I cannot connect to
either the local web server and firewall, nor to the
wwweb. I know my cable is o.k., as I can still connect to
Novell on the same network segment.
I have tried resettin tcp/ip, and checked to make sure
dhcp service is started. The user did have
backdoor.trojan a week or two ago, but the norton took
care of it. I booted in safe mode and ran an antivirus
check just to be sure.
Any other suggestions? Thanks. Luan

I would try deleting the Novell protocol from TCP/IP
properties of the ethernet connection. Then try to
connect using the Microsoft protocol. Once you are
reconnected, then try reinstalling the Novell protocol
and I think you will be fine.

Make sure that the sites you are connecting to are allowed
by the Novell Administrator. I've seen this problem with
Novell Client32 years ago, but with NetWare 5 it was my
impression that NetWare migrated to a pure TCP/IP stack.
Consequently I wouldn't be surprised if the Microsoft
Protocol is sufficient to connect to the Novell Network.

Also beware of improper settings in XP's built-in Internet
Connection Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing feature.

Hope this helps!

I unchecked the Client Service for Netware in my network
properties, and rebooted, (I'm not using Client32). It
still didn't work.
I looked in my event log, and I am getting a DHCP Warning
and a IPSEC services Error. Both are saying that the
requested service provider could not be loaded or
initialized.
Thanks.

I am having a very similar problem with the TCP/IP not
connecting, although I do not connect to Novell or have
anit-virus software. I have tried much of the same
things as Luan to fix the problem both nothing works.
