hey all.

i am experiencing the exact symptoms of post 817571, Error
Message When You Try to Connect to Network: An Operation
Was Attempted on Something That Is Not a Socket. the only
problem is that, i followed the corrective action for that
post, yet i still cannot get my laptop to connect to the
internet through our cable modem. there is no change in
my symptoms.

as an additional idea, i tried the resolution to post
811259, Error Message Occurs When WinSocks Library or
TCP/IP Are Damaged, because the symptoms given are about
the same. however, still, the problem remains. because i
can directly connect our desktop computer to the cable
modem and experience fine internet connectivity, i know
(from prior phonecalls ^_^) that our ISP cannot (or will
not? haha) offer any assistance because "the service they
provide is obviously functioning correctly - the issue is
on my end, specifically in the laptop." so if anyone can
help identify why my laptop cannot connect to the internet
through our cable modem and a network patch cable (which
i've also verified is not the problem), please HELP!!!!
thanks. ^_^
