I have a T40 IBM laptop
We have reset the winsock , winsock2 also
remaned the files then deleted them
restarted the machine
my user can get to the internet just fine
but after a while he can not.
I followed what Article ID 318584 said to do
but it will stop working after a while

thanks

Sounds like a hardware problem, possibly a
cable if not the NIC, hub, or other device.

Do NOT overlook trying a new and better cable.

Maybe some heat problem with your hardware.
Does it work longer if you leave the machine off
for a while to cool off ?

Sounds like an issue with PPP keepalives (if you do use PPP i.e.)? When
you first lose connectivity, can you "disconnect" and then reconnect
again or do you have to restart the machine first? Do you lose
connectivity while browsing webpages or only when internet activity is idle?

Could you tell us if you connect using a Network Interface Card and
Ethernet or some other means such as a PCI or USB modem, etc that is
using PPP to connect? And also, if you use PPP are you using Windows DUN
or the vendor's software to initiate and maintain the connection?

Have you tried uninstalling the device and/or software and then
reinstalling from scratch?
Have you tried looking for updates to the existing device drivers?
Have you performed a thorough malware scan?

i'm new here and this place is a mess
i don't even know what they are using.
they use cisoc vpn software on the machine

Is this the only person having the problem?
It is a timeout issue on the VPN tunnel? Try a continuous ping to see if it
drops.
Does updating the client help?
Is the MTU set correctly for the tunnel?
