Tax Cut Programs won't update

I have several versions of Tax Cut Software, 1998 thru
2003 which I just installed and am trying to do the
automatic updates, but then my computer stops
responding. When I send the error report I get a web
page that says there is a fix and that Windows XP
originally wasn't compatible and to go to the Windows
update site and update my computer. My computer is up to
date and when the scan is finished all I get is "No
updates at this time" How do I get Tax Cut to to the
updates to its own software if Win XP won't makes it
freeze all the time?
