TaskManager, System Config Utility, Norton AV not working

First realized I had a problem when I saw that the NAV
icon would disappear shortly after startup. When I
started up NAV through programs it would just disappear
after about 5 sseconds. Norton's website suggested "klez"
worm/virus. Unfortunately, the cure involved disabling
system restore so I cannot go back to the day I first got
the PC.

In addition to the NAV problem, the task manager does not
work and the System Config Utility does the same thing as
the NAV - comes up for a second then disappears.

I tried re-installing NAV with no change. I also removed
the SP1 service pack - this made it worse as I could not
re-install the critical updates, including SP1. Was able
to use system restore to get back to the point prior to
removal.

the reason it says to disable system restore I so you don't remove it and
then restore it back.

You can boot to safe mode remove Klez then disable restore point to clear
them out then create a new restore point after installing the service pack.
This will give you a better starting restore point!
