Hi All,

I have a problem when I run taskman.exe (version 5.0.2134.1). The app
appears to start OK and then either disappears and leaves the icon in the
system tray, or when I move the mouse over the application it disappears.
If the icon is in the system tray moving the mouse over the icon causes it
to disappear.

Does anyone have any ideas ? I recently installed a security patch from MS
and updated the direct drive software.

TIA

Do you mean taskmgr.exe instead perhaps? Taskman is one of those old
Windows 95 things that's still around, iirc.

Some viruses cause this behaviour
Can you run regedit.exe?

No I can not run regedit !!!!!

I am running Norton Anti Virus 9.05.15 and Norton Internet Security
2003. I have ran automatic updates. The system did run a virus scan on
Sunday, as scheduled.

Greetings --

This behavior is a common symptom of more than one virus/worm, the
three below being the most common:

W32.Yaha

You have a virus. I had the same thing. Got right past my firewall
and Norton2003.

Do this, as it worked for me. YMMV

1. Copy taskmgr.exe and regedit.exe to MY Documents

2. RENAME them taskmgr.COM and regedit.COM

3. RUN Taskmgr.COM. it should work ok now.

4. IN Proceeses, find Winlodr.scr (or something like that) and KILL
IT.

5. in c:\winnt\system32 find winlodr.scr and DELETE it.

6. EMPTY the recyle bin Right Away.

7. Run Regedit

8 find and DELETE all keys that reference winlodr.scr

9 Reboot.

10 do the ctrl-alt.del thing and make sure regular Task manager works
ok

This is a bad virus. it got thru my firewall and past norton antivirus
2003.

good luck
Carl
