Taskbar & Toolbar Security

I am adding shortcuts to my Quick Launch toolbar and creating additional
toolbars on the taskbar. My question is about security. Do those shortcuts
put me at risk? I want to make sure they are seen only by me and not
accessible from the Internet (hackers, spyware, etc.) through exploits in
Internet Explorer or Java (Sun Java JRE runtime). The Quick Launch
integrates with Internet Explorer in some way, doesn't it? Maybe I'm
confusing Internet Explorer with Explorer.

UPnP, SSDP, and Messenger are disabled. I have a firewall, antivirus, and
antispy programs. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but I don't want
anyone having access to my files or running my programs but me. Similarly, I
hope I'm the only one who can see my desktop and Start Menu shortcuts. I'm
low income, and there probably isn't anything on my computer a hacker would
be interested in, but I still want to practice safe computing.

They do not increase your risk.
The quicklaunch bar or any other toolbar you create are explorer windows.
