The taskbar of my Win XP system got stuck at the upper
edge of the screen some time ago. I don't know exactly
when it happened, but it might be because of a big disk
clean-up I made. The look of the taskbar is also
impossible to change now.

What might be the cause and remedy of this?

Right-click the taskbar and uncheck "Lock the taskbar". Now, try to drag it
to the bottom. do not drag it by clicking the taskbar edges (when the
double-headed arrow appears). Click on the middle empty area on the taskbar
and drag it towards the bottom
