I'm not sure how to describe this in the correct technical terms. My
taskbar used to permit me to drag icons to the taskbar, just to the right of
the Start button so I could start apps from icons on the taskbar. Now I
cannot. There is a vertical bar just to the right of the Start button and I
can drag the vertical bar to the right but it does not stay where I leave
it. I cannot see the icons I dragged to the task bar and I cannot drag new
icons to the taskbar. How can I reset this so I can see the icons on the
taskbar?

Thanks!

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your message.
I don't know how to unlock the task bar.
When I right-click on the task bar, I don't see any menu option for
unlocking the taskbar. What I see is:

Toolbars
Adjust Date/Time
Cascade Windows
Tile Windows Horizontally
Tile Windows Vertically
Minimize All Windows
Task Manager
Properties

Thanks, Chaim

The toolbar you had to the right of the start button is called "quick
launch"
Right click on taskbar
choose toolbars and click on quick launch

then, the vertical bar you were speaking of can be adjusted to the right, so
you can see your shortcut icons, and you can drag shortcuts there again.

Dave,

Since when has Windows 2000 has a place to lock the taskbar? Think you are
confused with XP...
