Taskbar is not showing which programs are open

Usually the taskbar displays the icon and name of the prorams that are open
on the desktop, allowing me to bounce between them by clicking on the icon.
They disappeared and I can't figure out how to get hem back. Rebooting did
not help.

Microsoft's help site only to find a 3rd-party quick fix??

Very disappointed MS can't be bothered to make a 'restore default taskbar'
option available ANYwhere.... what a pain.

Not knowing what caused your problem we certainly can't answer your
question.

As to your second paragraph, none of us can fathom what goes on at MS.
