My taskbar is not grouping the buttons when I have several
IE windows open. What can I do to resolve this?

Hey Jon,

Do you have "Group similar taskbar buttons" selected in taskbar properties?

Right click on start button and select properties, select taskbar tab, 4th
checkbox down.

They don't always group, it depends if there is any room on the taskbar, and
what other applications are minimised there.

Thanks for the reply, Paul.

Yes, the box is checked and just for curiosity I opened
several different apps to fill the taskbar. I then just
started hitting Ctrl+N to open new IE windows to see if
they would group and they did not.

Originally, my WinXP was an upgrade from WinME so I still
had some WinME characteristics but the buttons were
grouping then. I started running into problems (like
certain items not loading correctly on a restart) so I
decided to install XP fresh instead of an upgrade. This is
when the problem began.

Hey Jon,

OK, attempt 2.

This link may help
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/916/

It refers to 2 registry keys.
On this system with xp sp1, I only have this user key which appears to do
the job.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
Advanced

With TaskbarGlomming REG_DWORD 1

How do they think up these names, what the hell is glomming ?

Paul

How are you launching your IE windows? It sounds like your IE windows are
being launched in separate processes, which may explain why only your IE
windows are not grouping.

(The taskbar groups buttons by process.)
