How can the "Icon" and startup program be removed from the "Tray" to
avoid the annoying "Popup" every time the computer is started???? I
can't seem to lay my fingers on
the right update shortcut...

Willard

Do you want to stop the feature entirely or just prevent the systray
icon? If it's the former, stop the Automatic Updates service.

David,

I just want to remove the annoying "Icon" in the tray and any
"automatic" update.. I wish only to "manually" run the update by
clicking on the "Start" button and then select "Windows Update",
whenever I think it is necessary..

Willard

Open "Services" under Administrator Tools, find "Automatic Updates",
double-click it, set it to Manual, and stop it.

David,

Thanks, but that doesn't remove the pesky icon and it's popup balloon
from the taskbar..
I can't seem to find it with a right click on the taskbar..

Willard

David,

I found out how to remove the annoying icon and popup:::
Left click on the icon and "Install the Automatic Update"
but leave the box 'unchecked' to automatically update the computer..

Thanks again for your consideration,
Willard
