I just needed to end a task for the first time since getting Vista and
ctrl-alt-del didn't bring up the Task Manager. On exploring further I find
that I'm supposed to be able to right click on the task bar and select Task
Manager. Mine is grayed out. In searching online help it says "Task Manager
has been turned off on your computer". Hmmm. Not be me it hasn't! I can't
seem to find anywhere to turn it back on. Is this a Vista Biz default. I'm
the Administrator and ONLY user. Any pointers appreciated.

Thanks,
Sheila

i'm familiar with this problem do you have a program to tweak windows? if so
is it called tweakVI, if so reply back and i'll giveyou the instruction to
fix it.

The one on the taskbar works for me. But you can do Ctrl-shift-esc

Or if you do ctrl-alt-del it is there but at the bottom of the list

I hardly know anything about computers but I do know how to get in there lol

Jonathan:

I do use Tweak VI. I wondered if that was the problem but I couldn't find
the solution there. I did find a solution that fixed it via Google:

Click Start
Click Run
Enter gpedit.msc in the Open box and click OK
In the Group Policy settings window
Select User Configuration
Select Administrative Templates
Select System
Select Ctrl+Alt+Delete options
Select Remove Task Manager
Double-click the Remove Task Manager option
Since the policy is Remove Task Manager, by disabling the policy, you are
enabling the Task Manager.

Thanks,
Sheila

ok i'm glad you have that program because i don't know any other way of
getting it back other than this of course.
now fyi every time you load tweakvi you will have to do this other wise you
will get the same problem every time.

here are the steps: load the program, go to visual tweaks, then startmenu
tweak and settings, go to the top tab called ctrl+alt+del / search......,
unselect remove task manager option.
that's all, i had to do it again cuz i loaded the program to help you, just
remember that for some reason that tweak is always trying to select it self,
so everytime before you quit the program check it, and setting tweakvi not
to load on start up will keep the program from doing this everytime you
boot.

USENET IS GREAT SHEILA!! :-)

who needs expensive software manuals? Not us!The power of many minds
working together is astounding, stupefying!

This thing had been inoperative for over a year. I just came to this
group a few minutes ago and found the answer.

Now I'm going to see why my
Windows Media player is dormant all the time. It simply will not work
no matter what! :-0
