task manager

i have windows xp sp2, office student and teacher 2003. on task manager i
constantly see 'winword.exe' running, it is quite a heavy user. what is it
and can i get rid of it?

It is the Microsoft Word program. If you have it open, it will be listed in
the Task Manager - Task Manager lists any active & open processes and
applications.

thanks for your response. at the time when i check task manager word is not
actually running yet it is using 30,920k of memory.

Sometimes, if Word stops responding and has to be closed down it can remain
"active" in Task Manger. This can cause probelms when you try to restart
Word as your system still thinks it is running correctly. If Word is not
running when you see winword.exe running in TM, you can safely shut it down
in TM.
