Can some one help me? Lately I've been having trouble
staying connected to my ISP, their tech support people
insist that I should free up system resources by closing
other programs. They say to use the Task Manager, select
a program, and click end task. In theory I suppose thats
fine, however, I have no applications showing from that
tab...but 22 on the processes tab. I don't have a clue
on what I should do and don't want to mess something up
on their say so. Is it necessary and/or normal to have
22 processess showing. And, second is it safe or wise to
disable any of these to improve performance and
connection?

I have 35 running at startup so 22 to me is lean. You can
end task as your ISP said but you will have to do that
every time that you connect after a bootup,it would be
better to disable startup programs that are unnessary
(via msconfig) these programs will launch when you click
on them even though they are disabled at startup.Only you
can say what you don't want here is a link to help you
tell just what each item is.
