i have a problem with the task manager. whenever i use
control alt del to get the window it shows for a couple of
secs befere disappearing or not at all. if i try to move
my mouse over the window, the window disappears. i try
clicking on the task bar and then clicking on task window
but it produces the same results. sometime the little
green box shows up at the notification icon in the lower
right corner of the screen, but then disappears all the
same. can you please help me.

Too little available memory. I have come across the same problem. Reboot and run taskmanager right from the start and watch how its virtual memory use develops. After 2/3 is used taskmanager gets in trouble, so make sure to stay below that (but I agree: it's a very stupid XP memory management). There's a setting in taskmanager that makes it when minimized go into the taskbar, giving a neat litlle window on its use.

.
this is what I found hope this helps. To pause
Scheduled Tasks
Open Scheduled Tasks.
On the Advanced menu, click Pause Task Scheduler.

Notes

To open Scheduled Tasks, click Start, click All Programs,
point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then
click Scheduled Tasks.
The Pause Task Scheduler command is useful if you do not
want scheduled tasks to run at the same time as you are
installing software or running another program (such as a
game).
Tasks that are scheduled to run while Scheduled Tasks is
paused are not run until their next scheduled time.
To resume the schedules for all tasks, on the Advanced
menu, click Continue Task Scheduler. hope this Helps
