Task manager disabled. Why? How to enable?

We're running WinXP Home SP2. From time to time we try to bring up the Task
Manager and get a popup saying "Task Manager has been disabled by your
administrator." I don't know how it's getting disabled, although I suspect
it has something to do with the kids games we run regularly. I also don't
know how to enable it. I thought Restart or Turn Off would work, but it
doesn't help now. There is only one user on the system and, of course, she
has Administrator privileges.

Can anybody help us on this?

Hi BudV,

See if the information presented here helps you to resolve the problem:

In addition, the Task Manager disabled problem may be caused by a
virus/trojan or other malware. Update your virus scanner and do a full
system scan. I would also check for other malware using Ewido or other
reputable spyware scanner.

Regards,

Patti,

I took the hyperlink. Method 2 sounded the easiest, but I ended up with Sun
Download Manager stuff and no idea what URL to plug into it. Then I went
for Method 1 and it worked like a charm.

Thanks loads,

Bud

Make sure you regularly do a thorough can for malware. This can be causing
the problem. Here are some links for how to deal with malware.
