task list: displaying summary information in the summary bars

Does anyone know how I could add summary-level information to the task list
(or any item list) when it's grouped by? If I group by task owner, for
example, I want to see the number of tasks and the total number of hours for
each person, regardless of whether that group is expanded or collapsed.

That would be so much more useful than an empty grey bar. Could a COM
add-in do it? Is there built-in functionality, or at least an OnPaint event
I could trap to display my summary data?
 
Outlook provides no support for such summary data.
