I see that but how do I get the icon for desktop to appear in the quick
launch along with other quick launch icons?

There will be a "double arrow" type thing where the quick launch toolbar
ends.Click it > You will See "Show Desktop" > Drag it between any of the
icons that are currently in the quick launch bar on the taskbar.

First, note that you can't create such an icon on the task bar. Undoubtedly
you mean the Quick Launch Bar. Although the Quick Launch Bar by default
appears *on* the Task Bar, it actually is not part of it, and can in fact be
dragged off it and moved elsewhere on the screen.

Create a text file in Notepad as follows:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save it as Show Desktop.scf then drag it to the Quick launch bar.
Or just click on this link:

Restore/Add Show Desktop to Quick Launch (Line 61)

Also note that you can do this with a keyboard shortcut: the combination of
the Windows key + D or the Windows key + M.
