Task bar will not go away

My task bar will not go away, even after numerous resets in the taskbar
properties. My normal checked settings are Auto-hide task bar, Keep taskbar
on top and Group similar taskbar buttons. This has been occurring for some
time; however, it would go away and stay in auto-hide mode for long periods
of time before having to reset the options. Now, the first time the bar comes
up after resetting, it stays up. Suggestions?
