Task Bar no longer shows open windows

The open open windows no longer show up on the Task Bar. To find what is open
or switch between windows, I need to open the Windows Task Manager. How do I
fix this problem.

That was simply great! It fixed my problem in under one minute. And here I
was racking my brains for a solution. Thanks a ton.
But I do wonder how this problem came about in the first place.
Could it have been the result of a virus attack?
