is it possible to take my operating system from a
disabled motherboard (e-machines t4155) to a new ecs
motherboard? I specifically bought the e-machine new for
the xp o.s. but demolished the motherboard with hard
gameplay. now i want to take the oem os to the new board.

Jim;
What is the source of windows XP?
If it came with the E-Machine, you will probably not be able to use
your Windows XP with a motherboard from a different manufacturer.
If you bought OEM Windows XP, with a piece of hardware, you may be
able to install and activate.

board.

.
yeppers, it came with my e-machine when new and the new
board is not affiliated with e-machines.

You can try, but you will most likely be unable to install the
E-Machine windows XP.
E-Machines will probably not help with a foreign motherboard.
Microsoft can not help with OEM Windows.

1. Your OEM Windows XP may be BIOS-locked to the original eMachines
motherboard, in which case it will likely refuse to install or run on
the new motherboard.

2. Although I have not yet seen an official Microsoft document
confirming this there have been reports that Microsoft has taken the
position that the motherboard is *the computer* for licensing
purposes. The OEM license is permanently tied to the first computer
that it is installed on and may not be transferred to a different
computer under any circumstances. So if the position is now that "the
motherboard is the computer" this means that your OEM license died
with the motherboard and you must therefore replace it as well.

Good luck

You might have to get a replacement mobo from eMachine.

normally your os should automatically install or upgrade the driver and hardware settings provided by and necessary for the new motherboard. You could look at it as if you would replace/switch the harddisk into another computer

Although i would like to mention with some kinds of ide/agp chips as Sis or Via etc. problems could arrise concernin
the needed driver voor these. It's known that even installing Os's on new pc's with these chip-sets and the appropiate drivers are not installed, it is possible you get BSoD (blue screen of death) cq installation of os is not possible

Hint: safe mode is working quite good during such problems; just give it a try, and remember: most problems are being made with bridges; networkcards (i/o) vga will always run (even in 2 colors)

Hope this might help you greetz (i've done it quite some times with different types of os and never had to install the os new, merely update some system settings)
