Takes FOREVER to generate thumbnails for photogallery

While going through the exercise in CH 4 of the FrontPage 2003 Step by Step
manual dealing with photo galleries, everything goes as expected until I
click the OK button on the Photo Gallery Properties dialog box. After that,
the progress dialog box appears, the staus bar goes green all the way across,
then NOTHING! FrontPAge dies and I am left waiting for HOURS to still get
NOTHING as my result. All I want to do is the montage layout, but it is not
happening for me. I have even tried phoos from other sources, but to no
avail. What is wrong with this picture...or the lack thereof.
 
Did you import the image file into your FP web first?
How big (file size) is the image file?
What kind of file is it?
