I have a new Dell Dimension 4600 System onto which I
installed Microsoft Office XP Standard. The Outlook
version is Microsoft Outlook 2002. When opening Outlook,
I normally wait 45 -60 seconds for it to open. I don't
know why(?) All other Office products (Word, Excel,
Powerpoint) open just fine.

Patiently waiting....

Try disabling the Windows Messenger integration. Tools-> Options-> tab Other

Hope this helps!

I have the exact same setup. When I open Outlook I get a
connection timeout dialog box. I can then select an
individual folder (inbox usually is what I select), and
from the file pulldown menu, select 'connect to msn'. I
can get the same timeout message 6 or 8 times before
finally connecting. Any ideas?

This sounds like a different type of slow starting of Outlook. Outlook does
a send/receive when you start. Apperantly your default mailbox (Outlook
Today) resides on a slow connection/server which causes the time-out. To
find out if this is the case and place Outlook in Offline mode (File-> Work
Offline) and restart Outlook. If it opens faster without any problem you now
know that the connection is the bottleneck. Don't forget to put it back
on-line again!

I hope this information was helpful to you!
