Just recently loaded xp home and all was working well. But now when I log in it takes 2 days to load my settings, and an age to start anything. any suggestions.

Hi

Do you really mean 2 *days*?

Yup

2 whole days. Then it behaves as if it has no ram, right click on any icon gets a response in about an hour

Tried rebooting from the cd, that hasn't worked
Tried taking ram out and putting back in agai
Tried format c: - won't allow m
I don't mind wiping the c: and reloading, cause I've precious little loaded yet

Hi

'Patience is a virtue' - as quoted to me very recently, but 48 hours is a long time for any PC to boot up. Try the following articles by MVP Michael Stevens, to either 'Repair' or 'Clean' install XP:

"How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install"
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

"Clean Install Windows XP"

Sorted. Managed to delete the partitions after finally managing to boot from the cd. Repartitioned again, reformatting c: and do another clean/full install. Probably not the best solution, but I have a pc at home again.

The one thing that worries me now is that XP is asking me to activate again. This will be the second time in 2 months I've activated it. I thought I read somewhere you are only allowed 2 installs and you're out. So if it goes again what happens? I'm pretty sure it won't be my last!

Hi

Glad your problem is sorted. You should be able to re-activate without any problems via the Internet - unless you have drastically changed your hardware setup.
