takes 120 seconds for the shutdown screen to show up

I have a Lenovo T61 laptop. When I select start->shutdown, it
takes 120 seconds for the shutdown screen to show up. This process
should take one second or less. Any way to fix the problem? Thanks.

I've been using Windows in one version or another for almost 20 years
and have never been able to shut down the computer in one second.
If you find the secret let us all know.

Whoops, sorry, misread your post. The "shutdown screen" does show up in
about one second; shutdown itself takes somewhat longer.
