I'm a relatively new user of v 3.1. I have a classical album with a
dozen tracks, but the composer field is empty. Is it possible to enter
this only once, as I'd hoped or do I have to enter all of them
individually (with some help from copy/paste of course)?

1. Select all the files in the album (It usually selects all files in the
current folder by default).
2. Select the multi-file tag editor tab (F3).
3. Select the "edit all supported tag fields" button. The composer field is
located in the middle of the general tab.
4. Select the check box next to the field to make it active.
5. Enter the composer name and select "save". This will make changes to all the
tracks at once.

You can also get to the advanced tag editor for a single track by
double-clicking it. If you need more help, feel free to contact me via e-mail.

Ah - thanks very much, I missed that button. In fact it was greyed out
and your post prompted me to realise I had to CHECK (select) an item
before that button became accessible. I'd been assuming I could
HIGHLIGHT the item(s). What exactly are the distinct separate purposes
of those two functions please, select (=check) and highlight? IOW,
when would I want to just highlight?

Checking a file is used for working with the tags. Highlighting a file is used
when you want to work with the file, i.e. delete, etc.

I find it's best to use the "select all files" in the "file list" tab of the
program options. T&R also has toolbar buttons to select all, select none,
invert selection, select highlighted files and unselect highlighted files. These
can come in quite handy when working with mixed files in a single folder.
